Rosina Gómez-Baeza

President, CEO of Factoría Cultural, Creative Industries Hub, Matadero-Madrid, Director of ARCO from 1986 to 2006, Rosina Gómez-Baeza was also Founding Director of the Biennial of Art, Architecture and Landscape of the Canary Islands (2005-2006), President of Instituto de Arte Contemporáneo (2005-2008) and Founding Director of LABoral, Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Asturias (2006-2011). After graduating in English Philology and Literature from Cambridge University, Gómez-Baeza went on to study Pedagogy at the London Polytechnic and Art History and French Civilisation at the Catholic University in Paris. She worked as a teacher and translator before joining Siasa Congresos as programme coordinator. She played an active role in the constitution of IFEMA, the Madrid trade fair institution, and was its first director of trade events and director of development. Throughout her professional life Rosina has played an instrumental role in many cultural initiatives associated with the production and diffusion of art. Among these are the Arco Foundation and Colección Arte Contemporáneo, the Experimental Film Festival of Madrid and Madrid Abierto public art programme. Gómez-Baeza was proactive in fostering research into Spanish artists, leading to the Enciclopedia de Arte Español del Siglo XX, published in 1992 by Mondadori. Gómez-Baeza has directed numerous contemporary art courses and forums and organised open calls and competitions enabling public access to video and digital artworks. Rosina has given talks at Universidad Carlos III in Madrid, at Fundación Santillana, and other academic centres and art events.
